1. Christmas Market at Thorvaldsens Plads
The former Christmas Market at Kongens Nytorv has moved about a 10-minute walk away to Thorvaldsens Plads in 2024 – hence it has now been given a new name.
Both locals and tourists usually stop by here, and surely there will be plenty of activity in 2024 despite the new location.
The Christmas market is best visited when it’s dark outside (which is quite a lot of the day during Christmas time!) – as you can then experience the impressive and enchanting 3D light installations.
Among the market stalls, you’ll find designers and artisans selling their local products. Of course, you can also get something warm to drink and a bite to eat.
The market offers a magical Christmas atmosphere, and as something special, you can meet Santa Claus every Saturday at 13:00. Here, the market’s own Santa Claus will pose for free photos, so you can immortalise the moment with your family.

2. Christmas Market at Kongens Nytorv
Kongens Nytorv is one of Copenhagen’s most beautiful squares in our opinion, and you should definitely stop by here during Christmas time.
In 2024, the historic square will get a 1,300 m² large ice rink in the centre, which can be used from mid-November to the end of the year. It’s free if you have your own skates, and otherwise, it’s possible to rent a pair.
For the last 16 years, there hasn’t been an ice rink at Christmas (partly due to reconstruction and renovation), but we’re glad it’s coming back. The ice rink brings back Christmas memories from childhood, when there were always people skating in circles on the square in December.
And of course, there are Christmas stalls nearby.
Don’t forget to admire the famous decorations on the luxurious Hotel d’Angleterre, which traditionally lights up the square with a new theme each year.
If you need to buy more Christmas gifts and need to warm up, the department store Magasin is right by Kongens Nytorv.
Practical information
Where: In the middle of Kongens Nytorv. Several buses and metro lines stop here.

The ice rink is open from 10:00-21:00 every day (as far as we know).
The Christmas market is open Friday-Sunday from 11:00-21:00.
3. Christmas Market in Nyhavn
In December, Nyhavn transforms into an enchanting Christmas market, where the iconic colourful houses and historic surroundings frame a cosy Christmas experience.
Here you can take a walk along the water and let the magic of Christmas envelop you in the famous harbour district.
Along the quay, you’ll find Christmas stalls decorated with pine garlands and lights, offering a wide range of culinary experiences as well as Danish and Scandinavian products.
Discover beautiful woodcraft, Christmas decorations and handmade gifts while enjoying the scent of Christmas spices in the cold winter air.
The Christmas market is ideal to visit in connection with the ice rink and stalls at Kongens Nytorv mentioned above.

4. Christmas Market at Højbro Plads
Højbro Plads forms the setting for a “genuine Danish Christmas market”, as they call it themselves.
You’ll find small red beam huts with half-timbering, lots of Christmas lights and decorated Christmas trees.
Among the stalls, there are Danish design products, warm clothes, lots of crafts, jewelry, ceramics, Christmas decorations, chocolate and delicacies. Of course, there’s also hot food, mulled wine, cider and glühwein, as well as various Christmas snacks.
On the last weekend in November/first weekend in December (Saturday, November 30 and Sunday, December 1), the Christmas market gets a visit from Santa Claus with his sleigh, where children can deliver their wish lists.
Visiting the market can easily be combined with Christmas shopping in the city and the Christmas market at Kongens Nytorv or Thorvaldsens Plads.

Christmas trees, lights everywhere, elf landscapes, lavish decorations and all kinds of Christmas stalls make Tivoli very special at this time of year.

The amusement park transforms into a fairytale Christmas universe with beautiful Christmas decorations and lots of stalls with Christmas ornaments, handmade gifts, roasted almonds and warm drinks.
It’s a delightful place to wander, but if you’re with kids or seeking more thrills, you can grab ride passes to experience the fun attractions.

6. Christiania Christmas Market
Christiania Christmas Market takes place in Den Grå Hal (The Grey Hall), and it’s a classic market to visit during December.
It’s one of Copenhagen’s oldest and most atmospheric Christmas markets, and reportedly it’s also the largest indoor market of its kind in the Nordic countries.
Among the stalls you’ll find art, wooden products, Christmas decorations, funny figurines, paper flowers, board games, string lights, hand-dipped candles, bags, jewelry, musical instruments, baked goods and all sorts of other special items.
Remember to bring cash, as many stalls don’t accept MobilePay or credit cards.
Every day there’s also live music, featuring jazz, swing, Balkan, tango and much more.
At Christiania, there is also the “Magical Christmas Lounge & Bazaar” at Gallopperiet, “Christmas Cosiness” at the Opera and “Christmas in the Gate” – a Christmas show at Christiania for children.
In other words, there’s plenty to do in the freetown to get into the festive spirit!
Practical information

Christmas in Dragør became known through the Christmas TV series Tidsrejsen from 2014, where the Christmas market played a central role. In December 2024, the sequel will be shown after recordings during Christmas time last year.
This makes it a particularly good year to visit the old town.
Every weekend leading up to Christmas, you can explore the charming, historic streets and alleys and enjoy the Christmas market.
To maintain the authentic atmosphere from the TV series, the same 13 original stalls from the series are part of the market and contribute to the magical ambience.

The street connects Frederiksberg and Vesterbro, and every day you can find some wonderful restaurants, cafes and shops here.
On the occasion of Christmas, the street (and the neighbouring street Tullinsgade) is transformed into a Christmas market on the first Saturday in December.
Local businesses set up shop on the sidewalk and with the street closed to traffic during the market, the area becomes a delightful place for a little Christmas shopping.
There’s usually a good mix of new and used items, Christmas snacks, warm drinks and good opportunities to buy a few unique Christmas gifts in the beautifully decorated street.
